Gardner-Webb University is a private university in Boiling Springs, which is a town in Cleveland County, situated in the US state of North Carolina, with a population estimates at a number of nearly 4000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.
First starting as a boarding high school and later becoming a junior college, GardnerWebb University is today recognized as a thriving regional university with growing master’s and doctoral programs. The university’s history started in 1903, with a movement initiated by the Kings Mountain Baptist Association, Boiling Springs High School, the name by which the institution started, being chartered on December 2, 1905.
To better express its mission, as well as to respond the changing educational needs of the area, the high school was transformed into the Boiling Springs Junior College in 1928, receiving its full accreditation as a senior college in 1971, officially adopting its current name in January 1993. Although, the university has experienced many changes, over the years, it still maintains a close relationship with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, today.
The university is academically organized into 14 departments through which it offers 45 major fields of study, among the most popular 39 undergraduate majors being in business, education and social sciences, GardnerWebb also offering it students associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programs.
